DAY TRIP TO THE

“DREAMING SPIRES OF OXFORD”

Another trip organised by GreatDays Travel.    A 9.00am start from Wigston Stage Hotel (where we can leave our cars) and travelling by coach to Waterperry Gardens and Museum where we meet our guide at this picturesque attraction, made famous by Beatrix Havergal.   It is home to 8 acres of beautiful landscaped ornamental gardens, a quality plant centre and a garden shop plus gallery and gift shop, museum and tea shop.

Time for coffee/tea, explore the gallery and museum and shop before moving on to Oxford where we arrive at 12.00pm.

Oxford has over 1000 years of history, and our coach will drop us outside  the Ashmolean Museum, and then we have a short guided walk through the Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Square, visiting one of the typical colleges of the University.

Lunch at approx. 1.00pm at Cafe Rouge on Little Clarendon Street, is included (two courses plus tea or coffee) and if the weather is warm and sunny we may be seated in the outdoor area.

At approx. 2.30pm we take the coach for a drive into the beautiful countryside where our guide will enthral us with tales of King Henry 11's courtship of 'Fair Rosamund'.  We shall also visit Woodstock where Elizabeth the First was imprisoned in a lodge, and we shall learn of Winston Churchill's connections too, before we return home at approx. 5.30pm

The cost will be approx. £45 each (inc lunch)– a non returnable deposit of £10 each with booking please by 19 July.  Please book with Colin Towell (Probus Club member) on 07813 782899 or email cftowell@aol.com cheques payable to Probus Club of Oadby and Wigston.
